Pushkar
is a town in the state of Rajasthan in India near Ajmer and an important tourist destination. Surrounded on three sides by mountains and
by desert on the fourth side, Pushkar is a very
beautiful city. Pushkar is famous for Pushkar Lake and
the 14th century temple to Brahma, the Hindu god of
creation. This is the only temple of god Brahma in the
world. The lake Pushkar in the mid of the city adds to
the charm of the city. The town is also famous for its
annual Pushkar Camel Fair.

The lake, situated on
the edge of the desert and surrounded by hills on three sides, is
separated from Ajmer by ‘Nag Pahar’ – the snake mountain. On this
mountain the Panchkund and the cave of saint Agastya are located. It
is believed that Kalidasa, the 4th century Sanskrit poet and
playwrighter, chose the setting for his masterpiece ‘Abhigyana
Shakuntalam’ in this forest heritage.
Pushkar has the
Famous "Brahma Temple" which holds utmost importance to the pilgrims
as it is the only temple in India dedicated to Brahma. It's marked
by a red sphere, and over the entrance gateway is the Hans, or goose
symbol, of Brahma. Inside, floor and walls are engraved with
dedications to the dead.

an important temple of the town. The 12th century temple is
dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The Warah temple
houses an image of lord Vishnu in the incarnation of wild boar.The
temples of Brahma and Warah are considered equally important. This
ancient temple belived to be constructed by King Anaji Chauhan
(1123-1150). Mythological a very important temple temple and is
believed that Vishnu came on the earth in the incarnation of
Warah(wild boar) to kill the demon Hirnayaksh and liberate the land
from his atrocities.

The nearest
airport from Pushkar is Jaipur. Jaipur is well connected to all
the major cities which includes Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Jodhpur,
Udaipur. Recently, flights to Dubai has also started from
Pushkar by Indian Airlines.
The nearest railway station for Pushkar is Ajmer, which is on
the Broad Gauge and hence connected to all the metro cities of
India.
Pushkar is 11 km from main Ajmer bus stand. Rajasthan Roadways
run very comfortable deluxe buses from Jaipur. There are buses
from Jaipur to Ajmer every 15 minutes, some nonstop. The roads
are very good, and it takes around 3 hrs from Jaipur.

Pushkar Fair
The Pushkar Camel
Fair is one of the largest in India and the only one of its kind in
the entire world. During the fair, Lakhs of people from rural India
flock to Pushkar, along with Camel and Cattle for several days of
live stock trading, horse dealing, pilgrimage and religious
festivities. This festival of color and music is truly exhilarating
and unique. According to Hindu chronology, it takes place in the
month of Kartika (October or November) beginning on ashtmi 8th day
of Lunar Calendar and continues till full moon (Poornima). The Camel
and Cattle trading is at its peak during the first half of festival
period. During the later half, religious activities dominate the
scenario. Devotees take dips in the holy "Sarovar" lake, as the
sacred water is known to bestow salvation.
Weather
Pushkar has an
extreme climate. The maximum temperature during the summers can
go up to 40-45°C while in the winters it can be below 10°C.
There is not much rain during the monsoon. The best season to
visit this place is in the winters (October to March).
