Victoria Memorial Rabindra Sarobar Shantiniketan

It was Built in 1912 with the white marble, in memory of Queen Victoria, is one of Calcutta's most beautiful monumental legacies .  With beautiful garden grounds, the Victoria memorial houses a large bronze statue of the Queen Empress, besides paintings, Manu- scripts and other objects of historic values in its Museum and Art Gallery.

The beautiful lakes and greenery has been developed to give Calcutta a lovely picnic option. The palm trees along the banks add to the beauty of the place. A public swimming pool and a Japanese Buddhist temple are almost the other attractions by the lakeside.

Shantiniketan was founded by Maharshi Debendranath Tagore, the father of Rabindranath Tagore. In 1901 Rabindranath Tagore started an experimental place of learning with a 'class room' under the trees, and a group of five pupils. This class room that he started later became the 'Vishva Bharati University in 1921.
 

The Botanical Garden Eden Gardens Stadium Nalban Boating Complex

Situated on the western bank of Hoogly, the garden was founded in 1787 by Col. Alexander Kyd of the East India Company. There are more than 30,000 varieties of trees and plants, including the famous banyan tree. This 200-year-old Banyan tree, the world's largest, has a circumference of 330m. The 600 roots from the tree reach for the ground in low, sinewy, twisting lengths.
 

Alongside the Eden Gardens is the world famous Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium. The stadium is supposed to be the largest in Asia with a seating capacity of more than lakh spectators. It was one of the first cricket stadiums in India where floodlights were installed and Day & Night cricket was played.

It is situated at the heart of Salt Lake City, just 12 Km away from the Central Calcutta. It's unpolluted environment offers a soothing effect to the visitors. Iskcon Rathayatra Dover Lane Music Conference Diwali

Rathayatra  Kolkata, is organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Three Chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra are taken out of their temple on Albert Road to the strip of Maidan bordering the Victoria Memorial. After seven days, these are taken back again to the temple.

The largest Indian Classical musical event in Kolkata, the Dover Lane Music Conference has been taking place for the last 25 years. The festival is presented at Nazrul Mancha every year between January 22 and 26.

Durga pooja is most impotant festival in Bengal. This festival is devoted the goddess Durga. Some 2,000 pandals are erected throughout the city. The image of Durga shows her slaying the most powerful demon, Mahisasur.
