founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the 7th Century A.D.

Dargah or tomb of the popular 13th-century, Sufi Saint

The
lake is situated on the edge of the desert and surrounded by hills
on three sides, is separated from Ajmer by 'Nag Pahar'-the snake
mountain. On this mountain the Panchkund and the cave of the saint
Agastya are located.
A beautiful
artificial lake, Ana Sagar Lake was built by Anaji between 1135-1150
AD. Later the Mughal Emperors made additional constructions to
beautify the Lake. While the Baradari, a beautiful marble pavilion,
was built by Shah Jehan, Jehangir added the Daulat Bagh Gardens.
A remarkable
structure, this is a masterpiece of Indo Islamic architecture
located on the outskirts of the city. Just beyond the Dargah. It was
originally a Sanskrit college, built within a temple. In 1193 A.D.
Mohammad Ghauri conquered Ajmer and converted the building into a
mosque.

airport is Jaipur which is 135kms away.
Ajmer is also accessible by train, as it is located on the main
Delhi-Jaipur-Ahmedabad-Mumbai line. Most of the trains on this
route stop at Ajmer.

nine-hour road-trip from Delhi to Ajmer.

Urs Ajmer Sharif
Held in the holy town
of Ajmer in honour of the Sufi saint, Khwaja Moinuddin
Chishti.People of all religions visit the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin
Chishti. The Khwaja left for heavenly abode in 1256 AD after a six
day prayer in seclusion. These six days are celebrated every year as
the annual Urs, which is attended by innumerable pilgrims
irrespective of their faith.
